PLUME: Is there a film you’ve turned down that you regretted not doing?

OZ: No. I’ve turned some big films down, but that’s because I didn’t feel I could do them. Not that I wasn’t able to do them, I just didn’t have a vision – I didn’t have a take on it. I don’t regret the films that I’ve said “no” to. Many films I’m very, very happy I said “no” to. There are a few films that are big successes that I just didn’t have a take on. I just couldn’t see it.

PLUME: Is there a film that you’ve wanted to do but could never get moving on?

OZ: There’s an idea that I have, but I really don’t want to share it. It may happen in the future. It’s the only one I really have passion for. The other stuff I do comes from the scripts I get. This one comes from me.

PLUME: In the end, when all is said and done, what do you want your legacy to be?

OZ: Christ, have I died already? I guess the most important thing was to be a good father and husband.

PLUME: Finally, in reference to a quote you made many years ago: do you now get noticed when you go to the store to buy a can of beans? How does it feel?

OZ: Only occasionally. When I am, it soothes my flaming ego, but I don’t want to do that much of it. I’m not a shy person, but I do like my privacy…
