People keep referencing the fact that we shouldn’t complain because its free. But the fact that its free is a double edged sword. If they ever did start charging you couldn’t have these long protracted times of absence. And the whole movie promotion thing can’t be true anymore. Its been out for a month and is already had its run at many theaters.

This podcast is free. It always has been and, thanks to sponsorship, will (most likely) always be. Be reasonable!

You should never *expect* something that’s free. If it’s given to you, great; if you don’t then oh well.

Income from your View Askew purchases don’t pay for SModcast, by the way, and your supposed loyalty doesn’t exist if you’d passive aggressively threaten to stop buying his merchandise because he won’t give you something for free. Besides, you’d be hurting the Weinsteins more than Kevin and Scott.

I too woke up this morning to no new SModcast but, so far, the world hasn’t come crashing to my knees. If yours has, you need something more than a SModcast.

I was never trying to say that I was angry or hateful towards them for the absence. All I was referencing was the poster who said that Kevin had posted on his board that he had “several episodes recorded, and a new one would be up on Sunday.” Now if that poster was lying, then there’s no issue. I was simply saying that if he made the effort to update the fans on something they have been waiting for for 6 weeks, and when the previous episode suggested that a new one would be only a week away, then come on, you can’t blame me for being upset.

At this point, I would gladly pay for SModcast. Not only is it more entertaining than pretty much any movie or television show, but it would force these whiny bitches who continually kiss phantom ass to shut the fuck up.

And if one of the reasons for the delay is truly that they have no sponsor now, then I’m very confused. This guy is a major film director who is a well known celebrity. Are you telling me the best sponsor he can gets for his website is another smaller website? He’s done ads for Panasonic, and I’m sure Yoo-hoo and bartles & jaymes could pony up a couple bucks. Or here’s an idea, how about Harvey & Bob repay Kev for the millions they have made off his back when he shoots a flick for 5 times cheaper than everyone else.

And Shane, don’t ever compare Potter to SModcast. Smod is on a whole nother level.

Seriously though, I was looking forward to having ZAMMAP commentary before it left my local theaters. Not a huge deal, but they did say they were going to and then never followed up in any way. Free or not, that’s pretty weak…

Reading these posts is almost as entertaining as a new smod itself. People’s constant sadness over a month without smodcast is hysterical. Smodcast is undoubtedly amazing, and great fun to listen to…but also, you lived for years without it, go buy “threevening with” watch it, and be satisfied. If thats not enough entertainment for you people…(Kevin “huge-douche” M) if you scroll all the way to the top of this page and read the posts….its almost as funny as hitler claus.

All you people bitching about lack of smod need to shut up and find something else to do. There will be a new smodcast when there’s a new smodcast. Complaining and calling Kevin a hollywood sellout asshole and threatening not to buy any more view askew products isn’t going to make the new episode come out any sooner. If anything, it might have the oppostite effect of making kev and scott feel obligated to do it and decide to stop because it’s not fun anymore.
And this isn’t ass kissing or brown-nosing. It’s simply reality. None of us are entitled to anything that we haven’t already payed for in advance. Smodcast is free, so enjoy it whenever a new one is put up. In the meantime, I’m sure we all have more important things to do than bitch about a fucking podcast or try to make some half-assed freudian insight into kevin’s life. Come on people. Grow the fuck up.

Everyone has a point…well, some of you at least.

True, SModcast is free-we cannot expect them to keep coming on virtue of the fact we are used to them. It is simply a nice way of Smith reaching out to his fans.

True, Kevin hasn’t posted one recently, despite a “verbal contract” that he would.

I have the good fortune of being fairly new to SModcast, so I’m not as hard up as a lot of you, but I can understand your frustrations. Doesn’t mean they are particularly valid, just understandable.

SModcast is a time commitment that Kevin and Mos do to maintain and entertain their fanbase. Because of its nature, it developed the unfortunate aspect of becoming an expectation, one shared by, apparently, thousands of people.

It is disappointing, but frankly there are several valid reasons for them not to update and for all of you to stop complaining.

Like, for example, they wanted a break.

I do not have the mindset that people I don’t know can owe me something when I have done nothing for them. The money you spent at his movies does not entitle you to some extra service, unless you’re saying the movies were bad. In which case, why are you here?

Anybody here like Lost? Or Heroes? Or Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, the Office, Spaced, or any other number of TV shows? Those shows go on hiatus during (usually) the summer and come back with a new season. Now, true, those shows are more labor-intensive than SMods (though it only takes about two days to make an ep of South Park) but are you up in arms when the season’s over? Yes, it would be nice to hear an update, but if you go on over to the official VA message boards, you’ll see a post from Kevin saying the new SMods are on the way. He’s also been posting a lot less lately, and as every SModfan knows, he spends most of his time on the internet. If he doesn’t have the time to peruse and post on the board he usually has, he might not be able to sit down and record a smod.

And, personally, I’d rather wait for a good SMod than sit through a mediocre, rushed SMod. I don’t think I’m the only one who’s hoping the next SMod will address the outrageous comments of some “fans” on here.

i am all for everybody calming down and waiting but i was thinking about it…if you went to watch your favorite tv show or go to your favorite bar and it just wasnt there with no warning and you could get no information about it youd probably get freaked out ..kinda the same thing to me. I see sides to both arguments but not enough to get so hostile..its not life or death its just entertainment…relax

The difference between a summer hiatus for network shows and this is that the powers that be inform the audience that they’re going to have to wait awhile for a new episode.

There’s no communication here.

As I’ve posted before, I would be happy to wait patiently for the next Smod, but I don’t appreciate having to wonder week to week what’s going on. A simple note on the site stating that there’s no new Smod this week would be sufficient. A note announcing the date of the next Smod would be even better.

I went back today and listened to “Mr. Deaves Goes to Town” episode. What a genius ep…

Scott is one of the funniest dudes I’ve ever heard. Maybe it’s his dry personality, but it just seems like he drops some funny, funny knowledge. Scott talked about how he couldn’t do one without Kevin, but I’d love to hear one with him and Mewes or him and Bryan Johnson. Maybe we could here Scott’s point of view on the time Bryan freaked out at the Secret Stash… Just an idea for something to put out there in the podcast world.

Nevertheless, if this the end, it was a great run.

i just think its a bit lame that someone who is on the internet for a majority of there time(Kevin smith) doesn’t have the common courtesy to just say “hey dudes this is why smodcast hasn’t been around” it would take a whole 5 minutes out of his day and make everyone who checks back hourly/daily for new smods a lot happier and save them the disappointment of coming back to this site all the time and finding that once again another day has passed and no new smod has been released.

im not trying to be a whiner or complainer i just dont understand why kevin does this he obviously knows we are all waiting for new smod he said himself that there is new smods recorded how much effort is it to just upload them shits to the internets i just think when you are entertainers and you have legions of fans and you advertise smodcast as a weekly show than you should be somewhat obligated to let ppl know why their favorite podcast hasn’t been around in over a month
