What happens when two young men let their love of movies, comic books, and all things “geek” take over their lives? They run away from their families, bringing only the most essential DVDs and comics to their secret, highly fortified underground bunker in sunny Southern California, where they start recording podcasts that will change the world.
Are they heroes?
No.
Are they geniuses?
Far from it.
Are they the future of this planet?
I sure hope not.
Simply put… Matt Cohen and Jesse Rivers are “Bagged and Boarded”.
BAGGED & BOARDED #64: Podcastus Interruptus – In which Matt and Jesse discuss man eating dogs, are interrupted by a 10-hour power outage and then bring it all home by having a 30 minute fight. Welcome to a day in the life of Bagged and Boarded. Hope you brought protection.

I completely agree with Matt.
Jesse, you should get back to LA,
because you already have a head start working on a podcast in the same theatre Kevin Smith does!!
And your co host help set the theatre up!!that’s amazing!
circumstances could not be better.Maybe your lazy? You don’t have to invest 10 years in LA but at least get some exposure while you can, seize the opportunity.
whatever you decide, I wish you good luck, bro.

Jesse, all i have to say is..dude…WTF!!! Mabye this will sink in from someone who you dont know at all whos in a similar situation. Heres a little about me, Im a DJ in…you guessed it…MOBILE AL. I always wanted to be a DJ but i knew it wasnt guaranteed money so i went to college and got a computer degree. When I got out of college I could barley find work (because good paying jobs in our area are next to non existant even for the college educated unless your busting your tail doing manual labor offshore). So I get my college preped job and guess what…making ends meet is all well and good but if your just in it to make ends meet yoll be MISERABLE. So i started puttin in mad work at making this DJ thing happen, in 5 years living in mobile, making connects and doing shows here and there i FINALLY got a weekly residency downtown. Thats 5 years just to get my foot into a minor market gig, and youve already made better conections in 3 years in one of the largest markets in the country. So now im doing a thurs fri and sat show in downtown mobile, which ISNT a high paying desriable market. So my next step is to get my name known in the immediatley surrounding areas and move up to bigger markets. Something you ALREADY have. It may not seem like it to you but how many people can say they have a weekly show in LA, how many wannabe actors, writers, movie\music people can say they perform live in the same place kevin smith does….have had kevin smith on their podcast. Kevin knows who you are, do you know what i would give to be able to spin at a club where DJ Vice or DJ ZTrip ect ect spun at and have them know who I am.
Your podcast cracked the top 200…do you realise how many people bust their ass on podcasts and dont get that far. Youve worked on movies….there are a ton of people in AL who would do anything to work on a movie set.
As far as AL dude look around, Rich boy had the #1 singal in the country, we had Mr Big, Dirty, ect and all of them are still right here, they never went as far as they could because the connections just arent here. You could make the same if not more money in LA that you can here, only difference is there you could luck up into a GREAT job, in the entertainment industry or out of it. And from what mat said apartments over there can be found for the same amount they are here so whats the difference? Also people are going to come to the smodcastle, its going to be a big thing, your going to get ATTN for it. It may be known as a comedy thing but who cares your not trying to be an actor you want to be a writer and writers are supposed to be about creativity, which is what youll be displaying on stage over there, it wouldnt be unthinkable that someone could really like what you do and want you to be involved in other things, its acutually LIKLEY cause your working around kevin. Its all about networking and building relations. In almost every career (djn acting busniess world ect)you start out doing things that arent your main interest and you build your rep up until you can move yourself into a position to do what YOU want.
Think about it like this not many directors writers ect get their big break in 3 years, they keep at it and work for it. You want to know how you finally make it, you keep at it and other people give up because it wasnt handed to them and they go home while your still playing the game. Even if you dont become the next scorscase at least you spent your life pursuing what you really love and your around it. You think thats a wasted life but I would say that quitting to go get a 9 to 5 you have and just making ends meet for the rest of your life is an even bigger waste. I know your still wanting to move to a smaller market but why do that when your already had the chance of a lifetime and gotten a foothold in a MAJOR market? Do you think its going to be easier making it in a small market where you have ZERO connections?? The worlds full of i-wish-i-was\would-a’s who would LOVE to do something but their too scared to try it. I myself would LOVE to move to LA but am hesitant since ive built the network i have here, but if i had the oppritunity to do something out there id jump at it. Dont be scared of failure but even worse dont be scared to suceed.
Now next time you think your not doing anything remember that all of that was written from someone who you have never met, who dosent know you, but has listened to all of your podcasts and is a huge fan of the show. Ive even been been trying to figure out if theres enough listenership in this area to do a live bagged and boarded BAMA version since LOL. Your doin big things and just dont realise it, so good luck on the live show man, do the damn thing!!!
PS. Remember this post when you get famous cause i got dibs on DJin the release party for your first major film LOL.

Just got into your podcast because of Kevin Smith advertising of your live taping at SMODCASTLE so I’m gonig through the whole B&B archive! Really enjoying myself!
Matt, don’t let Jessie get you down on him not knowing about Pokemon or anything of some of the big pop culture shows/games of all time! I’m 26 and still am in love with Pokemon and I think you should pitch your movie idea!
😀

I can’t believe I’m actually going to say this, but for once I agree with Matt. Jesse, you need to get back to LA and work the Smodcastle thing man. It’s not gonna be a living but it is your way of getting your foot in the door. You gotta be willing to risk everything for your dream and if that means doing only just enough to keep a roof over your head and ramen noodles in your pantry while you hone your writing skills, then that’s what you gotta do man.
Good luck! Keep up the pod guys.
