What happens when two young men let their love of movies, comic books, and all things “geek” take over their lives? They run away from their families, bringing only the most essential DVDs and comics to their secret, highly fortified underground bunker in sunny Southern California, where they start recording podcasts that will change the world.
Are they heroes?
No.
Are they geniuses?
Far from it.
Are they the future of this planet?
I sure hope not.
Simply put… Matt Cohen and Jesse Rivers are “Bagged and Boarded”.
BAGGED & BOARDED #45: Someone Finally Got A Modem – In which Matt and Jesse – That’s right, Jesse’s back! – are triumphantly reunited, and the gents discuss the current state of comic books, the Golden Globes, and their top 20 films of the decade! It’s the one you’ve been saving yourself for…

Agreed…Fuck Walt Disney! If i ever have kids they will only be able to watch my ‘old’ Miyazaki dvd’s. also, just curious Matt, I was wondering if you wanted to expand on why you liked kill bill vol. 1 more than v2. both halves together are easily my favorite film of the decade. **Kill Bill SPOILER**
The last scene in vol. 2 when Beatrix first kicks in the door to the porch and sees B.B. for the first time, always makes me cry like a bitch. Easily the best film out in the last decade!

I’ve got to say, I am surprised at your top 20 list. Although, once you hit the top 6 I agreed, and understood. I guess it’s the emotional attachment that you give to these movies. For me, I tend to just go to the pure popcorn flicks for my top 20, the ones that I can watch over and over again (baked of course). Does that make me lame?
I love thought provoking movies, but I seem to just watch them once every two years or so, thus I don’t give them that high an acclaim. Maybe it is because you have been kind of in the “biz”, as opposed to someone about to try to get into it,that you see these movies in a different light (Australia is not the ideal place to get a start from).
Either way, I love the pod sirs, I have been a big fan for a long time. I don’t wanna be a kiss up or anything, but you are now the only reason I go to asitecalledfred.com aka quickstop.com
PS. Waking life is an awesome movie to watch fucked up, Kung-Fu Hustle, Spirited away (a lot of Myazaki movies) and Kill Bill are just awesome.
PPS. Just out of curiosity, Matt, I have often wondered this, but never had the motivation to ask (assuming you want to read this comment), what is your day job?
Ryuzaki, aka Rodney Hope.

Re: Kill Bill 1 over Kill Bill 2… Just comes down to tastes I suppose. I’m much more of an anime/kung fu guy then a leone/western guy. V.1 is frantic, hyper kinetic action and colors. Almost like a j-pop or superflat action flick. V.2 while amazing is so much subtler and slower paced.
Re: Ryuzaki’s Tastes: Doesn’t make you lame homie. But, keep in mind most of those films ARE my kind of popcorn movie. Ie, they’re fun to me.
Re: My Day Job= I steal the hearts and minds of America… 4 days a week (i like a long weekend)
Thank you all and now back to your regularly scheduled comments.

New topic: Matt for next week you should talk about Guillermo del Toro directing ‘The Hobbit’. Are you anticipating it, or does it upset you that he’s taking on the post-L.O.T.R. Saga…or ‘pre’ Saga if you’d rather. I’m a little wary of the fact that he’s the director signed for the project. I’ll say this though, after seeing ‘Avatar 3D’ less than an hour ago, I can foresee a really dope version of the hobbit, and a fail version. What do you think?

@Matt Cohen
You have the Blackest Night event misunderstood. The whole reason comics weren’t shipped the final Wednesday of 2009 was because Diamond didn’t find it reasonable to late-ship issues on a Thursday or Friday because of the holiday. After that decision, DC decided to early ship Blackest Night #6 to participating shops. Marvel also shipped out a free issue, Origins of Siege, to shops that signed up for Marvel’s New Year event. Indie comics then dubbed that Diamond skip week “Indie week” because the small publishers, the ones that Diamond tends to ignore anyway, self-shipped books special for that week.

Good work on cutting back Matt. I just got back into comics after a long abstinence and I’m right there with you. I’m currently only picking up about 7 books a month. I’m a huge Green Lantern fan, but fuck DC and they’re even bullshit. The only book from the major two I’m reading now is the Deadpool Team-Up, just because each book is its own thing, and Deadpool fucking rocks. BOOM and IDW are doing some good stuff, but the DC/Marvel thing is mostly junk.
Check out Anchor from BOOM, it’s great. In the vein of Hellboy, and you just mentioned how you started on that.
Found you through SMOD and Mewescast…and really dig all of your work man. Keep it up!
