I’m glad you managed to SMod with your busy schedule, guys…and it was a good one (could’ve done without the ‘quiz’, personally…)

SMods’re usually enjoyable, but Kevin’s impressions of “toothless Jay” were laugh-out-loud funny (“the hot bokth!”). Jay seems to be growing up alot, doesn’t he? Great to hear. It’s gonna be weird, him playing a character OTHER than ‘Jay’ in a Kevin Smith film.

It’s not an ‘Askewniverse’ movie, but I REALLY hope we get the CAMEOS we watch for (Lee, Damon, Schwalbach, Dante and Affleck, but most of all KEV and SCOTT!)

I listen to you guys every week. I really dig the show and will continue to be an avid listener. Also canâ€™t wait for Zack and Miri to drop.

Quick question for Kev though: I really do love every aspect of what it is you do, but something that always kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth is how you sell a lot of set props and stuff on eBay. Obviously if you can make another buck on the side, by all means. But in my modest opinion, I think it comes off as a bit money-hungry. Itâ€™s not just that though. It has to do with not being able to get into an event unless you buy your book, etc. Whatâ€™s with, man?

So here’s the deal: someone, likely Mr. Smith, lashed back on my website about my subtly calling him money hungry in the SModcast 43 comments (selling props on eBay, book purchase required for entry to an event, and on and on). Clearly this struck a cord.

I was referred to as a jerk off in this comment, which is cool by me because I’ve never been one to take Internet slander to heart (unlike some). So no big deal, the reaction speaks volumes. Iâ€™d give you more details about it, but I deleted it right away and canâ€™t honestly remember all of it.

I guess the underlying thing is, I asked the question in a pretty diplomatic way, and he got pissed. I’ll still look forward to new flicks and anything Smith related, but I guess he didn’t care for me calling him out like that. What can you do?

By the by, Iâ€™m Loving Mewes in SModcast.

Don’t assume that it was Kevin himself directly responding to you. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t mean it’s coming directly from him and you’ve hit a nerve. I read that response and nothing indicated that Kevin was fuming with rage and had to respond to you. It was just another post from a random stranger on the internet.

Why not sell the items? Better than sitting around collecting dust in some storage.

Well, for starters you can stop trying to start shit online. There was nothing subtle or “diplomatic” about your comments, as you posted the EXACT same one on both episodes 43 AND 44. That has antagonist written all over it.

As for selling props on eBay, you obviously are ill informed about the way Hollywood works these days. Let me educate you. When a custom prop is made for a flick, and chances are slim-to-none that another production will find it useful, said prop is sold to fans and collectors as a way of A) keeping prop houses clear of props they won’t EVER use again and B) making some money back for the production company. Did you run on over and find a Rob Zombie forum to flame when Halloween props were sold? In Hollywood, the bottom line is the bottom line.

As for the event you mentioned, I won’t speak to it as I’m completely in the dark as to the situation and circumstances. But I will point out that being called a “jerk off” isn’t slander because A) slander is spoken; in print, it’s called libel and B) it’s neither a truth or untruth; it’s an opinion, which we’re all free to have and speak in this country. For example, I am of the opinion that you are a complete douchebag. Guess what? No lawyers are beating down my door. Looks like I was right.

In closing, I’d like to quote Jason Mewes from “An Evening with Kevin Smith”:

I grew up there but havent been back in a while, thank god. The Junk stores there are great. I know where theres a stack of about 300 paintings of nude women copied out of dirty magazines. At first I thought this SModcast kinda sucked. But then the more jobs they named on a movie set I was like “Hey yeah….what the hell does a script supervisor do?” I liked it a lot.

Ben Affleck would a great guest, I loved the Dogma commentary where Kevin and Affleck go back and forth. It probably won’t happen again until Kevin directs Jaws 6 and Affleck plays the shark. Man goes into cage, cage goes into water, Afflecks’ in the water, our Affleck. George Carlin could play Quint, Mewes plays Brody and Kevin plays hooper, just so I could see him squeeze that fat ass in a wet suit. I would go pay my 9.50 just to see Mewes snoogans the shark.

I think the Smodcasts being played on XM radio are really great. I am hoping that since you do great phone-ins and studio visits on Opie & Anthony that you might somehow find the time to do a 3 hour live show in studio on a Saturday night during the Saturday Night Virus timeslot.

Brave of Mewes to have all that dental work done. Props to him for taking care of personal stuff like that. Most of us avoid stuff like that, so he is setting a great example. Always nice to hear from Mewes generally.

How can one tell when there is not going to be a new Smodcast in any given week? Not complaining, and I am probably missing something obvious. I do not see how you get them out as often as you do, but I hate checking back at this website all the time, if I do not know.

Chan, if you use iTunes, I suggest subscribing to the SModcast podcast. Then iTunes will automatically download the new episodes (though they are posted on iTunes about a week after they are posted here).

Otherwise, I suggest subscribing to the NewsAskew RSS feed (I personally use Google Reader for it) and checking that. But as far as something automated, iTunes is about it, I believe.

I swear I remember Kevin Smith telling a story on one of the Smodcast about one of the first times Malcolm went on a date with a man. Does anyone know what episode that was? Please? I would really appreciate it. Or if no one knows what I am talking about I guess I’m just remembering it from a commentary or imagining things?

Paul I agree. I would love if Ken Plume(sp?), who I assume puts in the music since he edits the episodes, would make a list of all of the songs used in each episode. Until that wonderful day occurs, the best advice I have is to throw a line from the song you want into google using quotation marks. Thats how I found the Micca song from Episode 9.

I am subscribed on ITunes, but I usually it up on this web site manually because I do not want to wait the additional seek. I guess the thing to do is to check Sunday night/Monday morning, and if there is not a new one then, there probably will not be one. I like reading the comments, too, but I guess I do not need to do that a couple of times a day! Thanks, Guys.

This was a great SModcast. I’m disappointed that there’s no new one this week, but hey, it’s free. What am I going to do, complain that you didn’t put out a new episode that I never paid for? Not like you owe me or anything.

I love these on-set SModcasts. I have an undergraduate degree in film, but came back to grad school to get a master’s degree in film because my bachelor’s was more theory based than technically based. I’ve been on a film set, but not since I started my masters. I loved hearing you guys talk shop in this episode, because it reminded me how much I miss being on a film set.

This episode was actually painful to listen to. Wow, saying people’s names for a half an hour straight. Mewes is a very dumb person and not interesting at all. Kevin does his best to bring out any entertainment from Mewes but fails. Stick to making the dude say snootchi boochies, his personal life is dull.
