Political correctness is stupid. Im white, but im also from Brooklyn and practically grew up black. My friends wouldve laughed at me if I ever muttered “the n word” nigga wow i said whoop dee do. When its used in a derogatory manner out of hate is when it shouldnt be said. Racism is retarded its just stereotype dogma passed through generations. Even in the history books they admit the black man was probably the first generation of man on Earth so all in all we’re all distant cousins anyways. Thats right you bang your cousin, get used to it

I was watching the Blues Brothers on TBS or some cable channel that replaces select words in movies. In the scene in the diner, Aretha Franklin (in the original movie) says, “We got two honkies out there…”. The version I saw replaced the word “honkies” with the word “hoodlums”. Why? I’m wondering who would make that decision and what was their motive?

Very funny and interesting SModcast. Just finished listening (been away from my PC due tothe holidays). As a black dude, you caught me off guards droppin the N-Bomb Ger of Gah still carried the baggage, but I saw why you led into it. More in tuned with Mos- gotta understand history begind some derrogatory words to see why./ You also got a thick skin wven about yourself, hence who nothing offends you.

Funny show! I’m black, my husband is white. We took our daughter in to the pediatrician when she was born, and he said, “I think your daughter might have jaundice, but it’s hard to tell because she’s mulatto…” My husband and I looked at each other in disbelief, but since we knew the doctor pretty well, we let t slide! I guess not everybody thinks the term is un-PC…

2 questions 1) Is there a chance you can do a daily smodcast instead of just once a week? 2) For MOSIER; Have you ever thought about writing or directing your own movie or possibly even writing one together with KEVIN? SModcast has turned me into a big SCOTT MOSIER fan and if you were to write/direct your own movie I’d be the first one in Sweden to watch it. Kevin, please, spare us! I love the Smodcast, but decrying the whole dark = evil thing as some kind of hidden racist thing worked into the English language is ridiculous. It comes from the dichotomy of day and night, the latter being associated with “evil” because, throughout much of human history, nighttime was a more dangerous time, a time where you could fall victim to various predators and whatnot. The depiction of light as goodness and dark as evil has become an archetypal image and, get this, occurs in the poetry and literature of indigenous African people–i.e., African works produced prior to European influence on the region. If you think those who equate darkness with evil is somehow racist, then you are going to be making the case that indigenous African people are prejudiced against black people. That’s completely silly.

This isn’t a response to this SModcast in particular, but just a question I’d love to hear addressed: In both commentary tracks on ‘Jersey Girl,’ Kevin refers to longer cuts and a “more Special” Edition of the film, to be released 6 months or a year afterwards. It’s been at least 3 years, and I’m curious if it’s anywhere on the near horizon, or if I should sit back and expect it to come at the 10-year mark.

If anyone on the Board knows anything, give a shout.

I have been a faithful listener since ep 1. I wish you weren’t posting on iTunes so much later now. I finally got my husband hooked on the smodcast. It’s the only thing that gets me out of bed on a Monday morning, and I am very grouchy when you miss a week.
I would just like to say to Kevin that I wish you didn’t feel so badly about yourself. You are who and what you are. You have a beautiful woman that loves you, and an adorable little girl that loves you too. Remember that always.

Kevin, having worked with George Carlin you’ve probably heard his philosophy that there are no bad words, only bad intentions.

Saying nigger or kike doesn’t make one prejudice or ignorant, but rather saying it as a means to insult a person of that background because of a dislike for their heritage is.

I came I saw I smodcasted. In reference to the “Jersy Girl of smodcasts” comment, I have to say that was just wrong, it wasn’t their best work, nor their worst. I do have to admit I call one of my friends a honkey on a daily basis. I’m taking it back dammit. I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, either here or Myspace, but I listened to the critics, I never saw Jersy Girl because it was suposed to be so horrible. I’ve even heard Kevin making derogatory comments about the movie, so I never saw it. Then it was on TBS (or TNT who really cares though) and TIVO snapped it up for me. In a fit of boredom I watched it. I kept waiting for it to suck, and it never happened. I enjoyed it the whole way through (except that little girl had a creepy face and I would love to hear the thought behind casting her) Ben Afleck plays the fuckin shark! I love the fact that in the view askewuniverse the actors come back again and again. It gives everything a coming home again feeling. I can’t be the only person out there who hates change, and doesn’t want to be invested into a new cast every single film. I can officially say I’ve seen every Kevin Smith film, and liked each one for a different reason. The only problem I have is that Clerks II felt like Clerks II: The quest for more money, to paraphrase a line from spaceballs. What the hell do I know, I never made a movie that made 30 cents, let alone 30 mil. Keep doing your thing, and you’ll keep getting my dough.
