Trace Beaulieu seems to be the most elusive of the MST3K people and it was great to find this interview. I’m going to put a link to it on the recent article I wrote over at Frankly Curious called “Who is TB 152371?!” (You know, as from the ending of *The Rebel Set* where Frank ends the episode yelling, “Who is Merritt Stone?!”) It is about my one-sided battle against fellow MST3K fanatic TB 152371. If I may be so coarse as to provide a link:

Crow T. Robot is one of my three great heroes–right up there with Thomas Paine and Dalton Trumbo. I have action figures of all three on my work desk. (Just kidding; *you* try to find a Trumbo action figure!) Wouldn’t it be cool to have a new Mount Rushmore with Crow, Tom, and Dalton?

It *is* a little sad that Trace and Josh were (are?) working on AFVs, but I guess we all have to make the rent. I’m glad they’ve gotten together for *Cinematic Titanic*. I’ve only seen two “episodes,” but I find them generally better than RiffTrax releases (the full ones that come on DVD like *House on Haunted Hill* and *Night of the Living Dead*). Not that they aren’t good too. Regardless, I really miss Crow and even Dr. Forrester–I still feel sorry for him when his mother made him do the trombone recital.

I think Trace Beaulieu does not get the respect he deserves. As far as I can tell, he was really co-creator of MST3K with Joel Hodgson (to take *nothing* away from Joel). The whole look and feel of the show is really a collaboration of the two. Yes, I know the basic idea was Joel’s. But I doubt that show would have taken off without Trace. Of course, it could just be my extreme Crow-based bias.

Crow may be gone, but Trace lives on.

There hasn’t been anything like MST3K on TV. I miss it still. I love the cheesiest movies you can find. LA LA LA.
